Come ZOOM with Us!

Want to be part of a small group during this time of “social distancing”?  It’s possible to do using “ZOOM” technology.

HOW TO USE ZOOM:
1) Respond to an invitation you receive from BFC to participate in a group or event.  Small groups might include Bible studies, prayer meetings, Book Club, etc.  The leaders of these groups will be sending out invitations to attend.  Let the group leader know you’d like to participate.

2) You will receive a “Zoom Meeting Invitation” via email.  The invitation will include the details you need: the meeting’s topic and date and time.  It will also include a line that says, “Join Zoom Meeting” followed by a long website address that looks something like this: https://zoom.us/j/327861737 (This is a SAMPLE only.  You may use the buttons on this page's left hand column to go directly to the meeting associated with that button.)

3) Shortly before the time comes to join the meeting, if you are using a desktop or laptop computer click that “Join Zoom Meeting” address.  This will take you to the Zoom website and ask if you want to open the Zoom APP.  When you respond positively, you will be taken to a “Virtual Waiting Room” for the meeting displaying a notice that the meeting will begin shortly.  As soon as the meeting coordinator starts the meeting, you will see faces begin to appear on your screen.  All mics are muted at the beginning of meetings.  You’ll be able to hear the meeting coordinator start the meeting and give you further instructions.

4) If you are using a smartphone to participate, it’s best to download the Zoom app to your phone from the App Store on your device.  Allow yourself time to do this before the meeting begins!  Once you have the app on your phone, shortly before time for the meeting to begin, touch the long Zoom meeting website address in the email invitation you received from the meeting coordinator.  This should open your Zoom app and get you into the “Waiting Room,” as described above.  If you are using a laptop or desktop computer, your browser will do all the work for you; no need for a special app for your computer, but the cellphone app is needed for best operation if using a phone rather than a computer.

5) You do not need to sign up or sign in with Zoom unless you want to get an account and host meetings yourself.
Give Zoom a try!  We may be “social distancing” for a while, and while nothing beats being together “in the flesh” we can at least encourage one another “virtually” during this time through Zoom!
